1612 Arrives in Paris where he studies antique sculpture and Italian painting.
1624 Takes up residence in Rome after first visiting Venice.
1627 Receives his first major commission, The Death of Germanicus, from Cardinal Francesco Barberini, a nephew of the Pope. Joines the circle of intellectuals centred on Cardinal Barberini’s secretary, Cassiano dal Pozzo who is a friend of Galileo.
1629 Poussin is living with the family of Jacques Dughet.
1630 Marries Jacques Dughet’s daughter, Anne-Marie. Explores the Roman Campagnia with Anne-Marie’s brother Gaspard and with Claude Lorrain, making sketches out of doors.
1632 Poussin is recorded as a member of the Accademia di S Luca in Rome.
1640 Returns to France at the behest of King Louis XIII where he undertakes work in the Grande Galerie of the Louvre.
1642 Poussin returns to Rome.
1665 Dies in Rome.
